Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer for High Water Reduction and Slump Retention
POLYVIA™ PCE Liquid is a high-performance Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE) for concrete admixture formulation. It is designed to improve cement dispersion, reduce water demand and control the workability of fresh concrete.
POLYVIA™ PCE Liquid is available in two main performance series:
HWR — High Water Reduction
For concrete formulations requiring high water reduction and strong initial dispersion.
HSR — High Slump Retention
For concrete formulations requiring extended workability and improved slump retention during transportation and placement.
The two performance series are suitable for ready-mix concrete, precast concrete, high-performance concrete, self-compacting concrete and infrastructure applications.
PCE Liquid Product Range
POLYVIA™ PCE Liquid is organized around two primary performance requirements:
| Series | Full Name | Primary Performance | Typical Application Focus |
| PCE Liquid HSW | High Water Reduction | High water reduction and strong initial dispersion | High-strength concrete, high-performance concrete, precast and general concrete |
| PCE Liquid HSR | High Slump Retention | Extended workability and slump retention | Ready-mix concrete, long-distance transportation, pumping and extended placement |
HSW — High Water Reduction
High Water Reduction (HSW) is designed for concrete admixture formulations where reducing mixing water and achieving strong initial cement dispersion are the primary objectives.
It is a suitable starting point for applications requiring:
- High water reduction
- Strong initial fluidity
- Low water-to-binder ratio
- High-strength concrete
- High-performance concrete
- Precast concrete
- Efficient cement dispersion
HSR — High Slump Retention
High Slump Retention (HSR) is designed for concrete admixture formulations where maintaining workability over time is the primary requirement.
It is a suitable starting point for applications requiring:
- Extended concrete workability
- Better slump retention
- Long transportation time
- Long pumping time
- Extended placement time
- Ready-mix concrete
- High-fluidity concrete
Key Benefits
High Water Reduction
PCE Liquid HSW provides strong cement-particle dispersion, helping concrete producers reduce mixing water while maintaining the required workability.
This can support lower water-to-binder ratios and the development of high-strength and high-performance concrete.
High Slump Retention
PCE Liquid HSR is designed to maintain concrete workability over an extended period.
It is particularly suitable for ready-mix concrete where transportation, pumping and placement time can result in significant slump loss.
Effective Cement Dispersion
The polycarboxylate-based polymer adsorbs onto cement particles and promotes particle dispersion, reducing particle flocculation and improving fresh-concrete fluidity.
Improved Workability
PCE-based superplasticizers can provide high fluidity at reduced water content, helping improve concrete handling, pumping and placement.
Flexible Formulation
The HSW and HSR series allow concrete admixture manufacturers to select a PCE chemistry according to the primary performance target rather than using a one-grade-fits-all approach.
Consistent Industrial Application
POLYVIA™ PCE Liquid is designed for industrial concrete admixture production and can be evaluated and optimized according to the customer’s cement system, concrete formulation and application conditions.
HSW vs. HSR
The key difference between the two PCE Liquid series is the primary performance objective.
| Performance | HSW | HSR |
| High Initial Water Reduction | ★★★★★ | ★★★★ |
| Initial Cement Dispersion | ★★★★★ | ★★★★ |
| Initial Fluidity | ★★★★★ | ★★★★ |
| Slump Retention | ★★★ | ★★★★★ |
| Extended Workability | ★★★ | ★★★★★ |
| Long Transportation | ★★★ | ★★★★★ |
| Long Pumping Time | ★★★ | ★★★★★ |
| High-Strength Concrete | ★★★★★ | ★★★★ |
| Ready-Mix Concrete | ★★★★ | ★★★★★ |
| Precast Concrete | ★★★★★ | ★★★★ |
Important: The comparison above represents the primary design direction of each series rather than a universal performance ranking. Actual concrete performance depends on polymer chemistry, dosage, cement compatibility, mix design, temperature and other raw materials.
